Need help to Install GMIC in Gimp 3 on Mac
#1
A Gimp newbie here. I searched for previous threads on how to install GMIC for Gimp 3.0 on a Mac, but found none.

I made the following attempt to install GMIC this afternoon. I successfully used MacPorts to install the latest GMIC package on my new Apple silicon MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.4.1. Gimp did not show GMIC in Filters menu.

I found the gmic_gimp_qt file and moved it to the User/Library/Application Support/Gimp/3.0/Plug-ins folder. Gimp still did not recognize that GMIC was available.

Has anyone installed this plug-in successfully for Gimp 3.0 on a Mac running Sequoia?

Appreciate any and all comments, thanks.

The only thing I can find is for Gimp 2.10 Gimp 3.0 is obviously very new.

and

...but someone with less success

Very-very few MacOS users visit this site. I advise asking the same question on pixls.us amd possibly gimpchat.com

Thanks for the feedback. Looking in Terminal, per your second link, for the files installed by GMIC 3.54 indicated on the gmic-gimp-qt file was placed in a Gimp 2.0 folder! There is no version number for the file so don't know if it was installed in the wrong place or not. Moving it to the Gimp 3 plugins folder did not work.

Would someone please post what the folder structure for Gimp 3 plugins looks like on Unix or Microsoft and where the gmic file is placed. I can at least try to mimic that on the Mac.

Thanks

Looked for a similar thread on gimpchat.com. How to install G'MIC 3.5.3 in GIMP 3.0.2 in Mac and linux ?
Sounds perfect, right!
Downloaded the file provided by Rich2005, moved the folder produced by unzipping the file to
Users/myName/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.0/plug-ins. Started Gimp and nothing new showed up in the Filter menu. I installed another plugin yesterday, new-layer-from-selection, and it works fine, appearing in the Layer menu.

Stumped, but still hoping for some success.

I will start a separate post on what I am trying to do with the filters in GMIC and maybe someone will be able to show me how to use native Gimp to acccomplish my goals.

No.... that is for linux. A compiled plugin like gmic is very specific, even to the OS version as well as the Gimp version.

Yes, that is the best way, do not forget pixls.us - always a chance that there is a MacOS user there.
