Newbie and Wondering if I can do this?
#1
Question
Last night i had a dream, and there was a very vivid image in the dream of a tree with a huge beating heart in the middle of it and the limbs of the tree's were transparent so that you could see blood pumping through them.  Could i make this image with gimp?  I've used it before for logo's etc, but never for something this detailed.  Is there something (a book or video?) that you could suggest that would give the skills to be able to do this?  This was such a powerful dream, i have to create this image.

Yes.

- Create an animation with the heart and blood vessels (on transparent background)
- Insert the fully opaque tree image under each frame
- Insert a semi-transparent tree image over each frame

See interleave-layers for these last two operations.

Thank You for responding and the help!  I think I was unclear about what I was describing.  I don't want it to actually beat, I just want to do an image that I can print out and then use it as a reference to paint it on canvas effect?  Thank you again for your help

More or less the same thing, three layers, from bottom to top:
  • tree image, fully opaque
  • heart/vessels (possibly a bit transparent, but this can be tuned at the end
  • tree image, half transparent
