Hello fellow Gimpsters!
I have figured out how to change a primary colored vehicle to another color but I haven't been able to find a way to color a black or white vehicle to another color.  No technique that gives me a decent end product...not yet anyway.  Can anyone help a guy out? Thanks in advance.

White isn't difficult, you typically multiply by the color you want. Black is near impossible to paint over properly, as far as my experience goes.
