Palettes

When I first opened GIMP v 3.06.1 I started by using MediaDesigns colorization of  a  b/w image  as a guide.

I managed to successfully replicate the tutorial until I had created 4 layers with layer masks.When I came to the 5th layer/mask combination, I could not paint on the image -ie I could 

not see anything happening. I deleted the layer and its mask, andd tried again making sure I had the required palette -which I had constructed - was selected before I created the new 

layer.

This made no difference

As I am unsure as to troubleshooting I am at a loss to know how to proceed.

Also when I began the editing, a long list of palettes was available - this has now disappeared.

Is there an add-on for palettes?

Basically, I do not know.  Davies Media videos come under the life-is too-short category

You could add a screenshot showing all the layers and layer-masks you have.

As a guess, are any of the layers marked with a layer-effect icon  (fx) ?  This can affect some procedures.  Click on the (fx) in the layers dock and merge the layer-effect (s)  That gets you back to a Gimp 2.10 state.
