Reducing colors
#1
Hello,

Is there a good way to reduce the number of colors of my image to only have 4 colors? I was using indexed mode under Image but I was wondering if there was a cleaner way to do it...

Many ways depending what you want, indexed mode is not bad at all Wink
  • Colors > Posterize...
  • Colors > Dither...
  • Filters > G'MIC-Qt > Testing > afre > Query Primary
  • Hit the / key, input "Maximum RGB"
  • Filters > G'MIC-Qt > Colors > Colormap (select custom)
That's what came to my mind, but i'm sure there are a lot more way, and the above transform the image after working on it...

Try the gmic plugin http://www.gmic.eu  colormap filter. Adaptive mode - dithering zero - tones 4

At least it keeps the image in RGB mode, retains some semblance to the original (98000 colours) and does actually result in 4 colours (as set in gmic)

As with all graphics, a lot depends on the original image.
