SMG.Heur!gen
#1
Hi,

I'm receiving the warning that the installation file for GIMP 2.10 downloaded from 'https://www.gimp.org/' carries SMG.Heur!gen with it.
Is anyone else receiving this alert when trying to install?

Thanks
Al

There are false positives. Commercial software pay (a ransom Smile) to antivirus publishers to have their stuff whitelisted, a luxury that Gimp development cannot afford. When several antivirus all agree, then you can start to worry. AFAIK there has been another warning, but it was about another virus.

If you checked the MD5 hash of the installer against the one published on https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ you should be good to go.

That sucks about the antivirus software giving false positives.
Thanks for the heads up!
