Seeking Gimp 3 version of Layer via Copy/Cut?

Hello everyone, I have used GIMP for a few years to make content for my Sims 2 game.

I had the plugin 'Layer via Copy/Cut' by Slybug and was very happy with it, on GIMP 2.8.

However, now I have GiIMP 3.0, and apparently cannot use the same plugin.

Does anyone know if there is an equivalent for GIMP 3.0 please?

The old Gimp 2.8 / 2.10 scripts and plugins do not work in Gimp 3.0 and not so easy to rewrite.  Gimp 3 is still relatively new so useful plugins might get converted, but do not hold your breath.

Just a suggestion,  In Edit -> Paste As   There is Paste-As-Single-Layer-In-Place which does not have a shortcut assigned.

You can assign a shortcut such as Windows-key+V then in place of the plugin two key presses

ctrl-c win-V for copy paste
ctrl-x win-V for cut paste

   

It will be nice when Gimp gets a macro feature, I think round about Gimp 5.0 is planned.

GIMP 3's default behavior is to create floating selections rather than normal layers. This plugin command copies or cuts the selected area as a normal layer instead of a floating selection.

kju135: If you mean Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, then I promise you the default behavior in GIMP 3+ is to create a new layer.

I was the one who implemented that behavior change from 2.10, and I've dealt with both user happiness and annoyance with it ever since.

Definitely not!!! GIMP 3.xx copy-paste and cut-paste creates a new layer by default. If your GIMP 3 doesn't do that, then it's because you changed the shortcuts.

There is a notable exception: if you paste **into a mask**, a floating selection is created. But in this case, the plugin wouldn't be useful anyway.
