different shortcuts..
#1
Hello fellow Gimp-Users.

I've been using Gimp for a couple years now.
As I got used to it, I also got used to the workflow and the shortcuts.
I just downloaded version 3 and to my surprise many shortcuts don't work at all (Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/Ctrl+Zoom/Ctrl+H).
Also I was used to hit Ctrl+S to scale the current selection. Now it brings up the Shear tool and Ctrl+T seems to be for scaling.
I don't know what the developers were thinking on this release and why it would be a good idea to change shortcuts, people were used to for years. (vibe coding?)

However, in 2.8 everything works fine. My system is a clean W10 with more than enough performance.
Really dissapointed with this release. I know I can change my shortcuts manually, but why did they change them in first place?
Anyone else facing the bugs of some not working at all?

Shortcuts around cut/paste were changed because the floating selection is on the way out, The default "paste" is now pasting to a new layer, and if you check this forum's history, the old behavior was very confusing for new comers.

As far as my memory goes, Ctrl-S has always been File > Save. On my 3.x, Shift-S is still for the Scale tool, the Shear tool is Shift-H. And Ctrl-T shows/hide the selection ("marching ants") as it always did. As far as I can tell the translated versions use the same shortcuts as English, even if they are less mnemonic (the Scale tool ("Echelle" in French) is still on Shift-S and not on Shift-E).

If you are upgrading from 2.8 directly to 3.x, you are in for more surprises Big Grin
