Simulating paint my house
#1
Hy I would like a help to simulate painting my house, using Gimp.

I want to paint my house, but I would like to see on screen how it will be with diferent paints on walls and other details.

I would like instruction on the easiest way to make selectrions or masks I don't know exactly, so I can define areas like walls for one color and others for details like floor or roof or columns, etc..

Then, I how can I apply paint in a way I can still see the texture behind to keep it photo realistic. How do I change the colors in a easy way. And how can I get it as close as possible to the real paint?
Thanks a lot

No fast way in gimp that I know of.

If you want to see what it looks like in your home maybe take a photo of a corner that has different shadows as paint differs in the light - showing a wall and a window or furniture with the floor. Once you get that photo into gimp, Select the area that you would be painting - add a transparent layer (When you add your new layer make it 35 % opacity (or to taste you can change this after, and overlay mode) to keep the same texture you would need to desaturate the origional area, before adding colour in the new transparent layer's selection. To get the exact or close as possible colour see if you can get the paint colour online, download it and after putting into gimp use the colour picker for each time you try a different colour.
Save the first one as an xcf so you will have the 'template' Then export as a png.
After that you only need to export each one, Then you can make a montage out of them all to see which you like best

Some paint sites have this ability. Probably not with your house but would give you an idea with different colour furniture etc
Here is one
