Text has sharp edges

I recently tried to make a banner. The background was nice, but I guess antialiasing with very visible steps like blocks is really hard to miss. Especially when the image size is not small. Is there anything we can do about this ? Thanks.

A banner - Image size not small.  Did the image start off small and did you upscale it ? Text created on a large canvas will not have any worse anti-aliasing than on something smaller, if anything it is better.

If it is a banner for sending to a printer, then perhaps you should be using Inkscape.

It was an 800x350 image. No, I did not upscale the image.

But yes, I am a bit wrong here. I am actually talking about the image outline I achieved through Select > Grow. Totally got confused between them. Thanks.

Long ago, I remember seeing a plugin that adds a stroke-like effect to the text in GIMP. It was during 2.8 times.

I wonder whether there is anything much cleaner than Grow select to add a stroke in 2.10. Thanks.

Is it to outline text ?

Ofnuts mentioned one of his plugins here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Help-n...9#pid24979

An old plugin ? The LayerFX plugin has a stroke option.

For Gimp 2.10 use the drop shadow tool, see the screenshot back a couple of posts from that referenced post.

Yes, I think it was LayerFX plugin. Can I see a demo of it somewhere ? Is it available for 2.10 ? Thanks.

The @Ofnuts plugin looks very nice.

Thanks. But there is an overflow when I choose Bevel and Emboss

It is an ancient plugin. Not everything works. There are other plugins for bevel and emboss.

For an outline why not try the Gimp 2.10 drop shadow. X and Y = 0 Blur Radius = 0 Opacity maxed at 2.00 Set the grow radius and colour.

No problem. I am happy with other aspects of it. Thanks.
