Thumbnail Index
#1
Is there a way to print a thumbnail index of images in a folder with GIMP? I used to be able to do that with Paint Shop Pro 8.  Thanks!

There is a plugin for this see: http://www.sullockenzlin.demon.nl/Gimp.html

Plenty of instructions on that page for both installing and usage.

If you think that is too complicated, then I advise not using Gimp, try XnViewMP

for details see: http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=15340 that shows using the print menu, there is also a Create contact sheet option.

Thank you for pointing out that I may be too stupid to use GIMP. I now feel very welcome to repost on this forum. All I did was ask a question. I don't think the "then I advise not using GIMP" remark was needed. But I will check out the plugin. I truly hope that is simple enough that I can understand it.

Don't take that personally. Gimp is powerful, but has a steep learning curve. We very often see people trying to do things with Gimp that are best done with simpler software. You can go everywhere with an Abrams tank, but that doesn't make it the ideal vehicle to go to the shopping mall.

I posted that because of prior experience of the plugin. If you go to this page:
http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15338#p211963 that is your starter for 50 posts on the trials and tribulations of installing the plugin. What is straight forward in linux is less so for Windows. I hope you succeed.

What I did was offer an alternative. Again I could have offered command line ImageMagick for a batch file, something like
Code:
montage ^
  -geometry 296x196^>+2+2 ^
  -tile 6x6 ^
  -density 300 ^
  *.jpg ^
  m2.tiff

That will produce an image, load it into Gimp and print it off.

What I did offer was a simple alternative and one that I use, XnViewMP. A free relatively uncomplicated image manager, Set it up to open an image in Gimp if you want, make a contact sheet image if you want, directly print a page of thumbnails if that is required. No one is saying that you are unable to use Gimp.
