We will need a bit more info, as there are probably hundreds of plug-ins for layers.

What is the exact name of the plug-in?
What is the link that your computer is blocking?

Hi Blighty,

This was the link I had tried to download:  http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachme...1537971689

I want to be able to do in layers a tracing of image with several items.  I look forward to any help you can send my way.

Thank you

@ Loriblackdog welcome to gimp-forum.net

It is me again, and you are at a better place than gimpusers.com Wink

One of the problems is your over enthusiastic web browser and McAfee AV. Not much can be done about that at this end. You could try a different browser than chrome. Even in Linux, chrome will say for a python plugin 'this might be harmful' even when it obviously is not.

However,

Layerfx.py is probably not the tool for this. Can you give some idea - a screenshot - or the image - or part of the image. The more information you can give the more likely someone will give decent advice.

edit: Oh, and Gimp 2.10 does not work on Windows XP so what version of Windows are you actually using. It does help to give correct answers.

Hi Rich,
I tried to attach the you tube freeze framed but it wouldn't let me.  I went to youtube did search: How to add layers in Gimp 2.10 My choice was How to add New Layers Effect to Gimp 2.10 Beginners Guide Part 3, If you watch it, It will show you what it will do and has a link at the bottom which is what I clicked on to get the download.  I have Windows 10 Professional Office Plus 2013.  I hope this helps.
Thank you           Loriblackdog

Ok, found it: This page http://computersluggish.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=10

It gives two download options,
http://registry.gimp.org/files/layerfx.scm - which is no longer there.
and a valid alternative dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/s/i81ouhzmefv77w...x.scm?dl=0 No need to log in Just use the Download -> Direct download option.

Which looks like this on my computer

Downloads as layerfx.scm - not zipped, nothing more to do. Does your McAfee AV let you download that? If it does you can proceed.

That video gives terrible advice about where to install layerfx.scm It is a Gimp script-fu file and should go in your Gimp profile scripts folder. C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\scripts

This is a hidden folder. If you need to show hidden folders in Windows 10 see:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...windows-10

Copying over in Win10 from Downloads looks like this:

Start up Gimp and you get

But note, this is ancient in Gimp terms. Made for Gimp 2.6 Amazing that it works at all, you will find that some things do not work.
