Want to make necklace look like on the material
#1
I am trying to make a necklace look like it is really on material and not floating above it.  Drop Shadow does not really do that.  I have tried Bump map and displace map but cannot get it to work.  I do not know what else to try to get the effect.  Does anyone know how I would do that?  Thank you in advance.

You will probably have to give an example of your image, however I do not think bump-mapping will be the answer.

It is all about light and shadow to give an appearance of depth. No depth, no shadows. Floating over the surface? Probably too much shadow in the wrong place.

You could try something like this.

The background, this one plain, with a layer mask to give a gradient (of lightness) top left to bottom right.

A regular Gimp light and shadow drop shadow.

The drop shadow layer with a layer mask and the gradient reverse of previous. That gives more emphasis to the shadow in the lighter region. Does it look more realistic? - maybe, all in the eye of the beholder Wink

Thank you, Rich. I'll play with that more.
