What should I look for?
#1
Question
In using the brush and clone tool sometimes I encounter the problem of the colour or area I am cloning not being 100% opaque. I make sure there are no selections that could be the problem, also make sure that in the tool options it is set to 100% opacity & reset the tool options. I have not encountered this in vs 3 yet. Only in 2.10 but all was going smoothly originally so I'm unsure what the problem was.

I can not reproduce anything unusual, using the clone tool , standard brush , image with transparency.

but it depends what you want to do.

Better if you give an example screenshot, showing tool options and layers ....

This one clones any transparency from original position to destination.

Here it is using the brush

And clone

Settings above are the same

Only thing I can think of is I must have done something in the dynamics. I do not mess with them much. I think I have just looked at them - if they have a reset I will see if it makes any difference.

Dynamics is certainly a factor, I cant quite reproduce your paint stroke but....

Basic Dynamics does have an opacity and fade setting.
Some time in the past you have changed default toolbox settings Force is 50 / Fade length is 100 / Repeat is None.

First thing to do is change the Dynamics  from Basic to Dynamics Off

That worked .... Thanks
Now I need to see if I changed my dynamics settings and put them right or should I just leave them now?

It is one of those things that bugs me, by default Gimp remembers the last-used settings. Made for experts who take more than one session .

Since Gimp 2.8 I set up Gimp the way I want, then go through those Preferences un-ticking save-on-exit and clicking on save-settings-now. Then when I start Gimp I know the settings.

I think the default should be the other way around but that is just my opinion.

For a dynamic like Basic Simple you can not change the settings, it is a default Gimp system file and is not editable. Make your own dynamic if you want a custom version.
