Why is antialiasing not working
#1
Hello,

I have a selection set and I want to fill it with the paint tool. I want the edges to be smooth so I turn on antialiasing:

But as you can see from the image, the edges still seem fully pixelated.

What am I doing wrong? How do I get antialiasing working with the paint tool?

It will not be the bucket fill tool, look for something before that.

Is / was the image in indexed mode when making the selection. should be using RGB
It  might be the source of the selection, hard edges giving a hard selection. That is a small image, difficult to apply a tiny blur.
How was the selection made. Most of the selection tools have an antialiasing tick box, should be on. Threshold should be greater  than zero.

If all else fails. Select -> To Path then Select -> From Path replacing the existing selection. That is a last resort, try and get an anti-aliased selection in the first place.

Thanks rich,

I wasn't able to get antialiasing working with the select tool, but your last resort worked (converted to path, then converted back to selection). I'm inclined to use that as a first resort. Any reason you say it should be a last resort?
