The air brush and clone tool changed from smooth to a hard circle. Did I change this by accident?

Probably
By default Gimp remembers the last settings used, maybe you clicked on the Hardness 100 brush and did not notice. 
Choose a different brush

Thanks, I some how got it set on 50, but I like 25 so I set it back.
