how to use different font?
#1
I want to use a different font.  When I select 'text tool' from the left pane, then the tool options pane for text appears in the right.  In the 'Font' field it has a default of 'Sans Serif'.  I can start typing with, for example, 'book' and a pull down list of font names is shown.  I can click on a name, but the font field is not changed.  The text I type does not show the font I want.

Likewise, I can drag a rectangle in the body of the image and small toolbox appears above it.  I cannot change the font name here either.  Is there a way to do this?

I am using GIMP 3.08 (revision 1)

You need to click on the text you typed. A box will appear around the text (1) and then you can change the font of the text (2)

Thanks. I was able to get it to work by clicking on the [Aa] button first.

But I do not understand the use of the input field. Clicking on the [Aa] button gets a pulldown list with everything, but if I type in the input field to narrow the list, then the selection does not work.

If there is no match in your input then you get nothing. I have no fonts starting with "g"

...If you do get an overlong list then type in something matching to narrow the font name down. At least that works for me.

I understand the concept of the pull down list.  But changing the font in the text box by filtering the list does not work for me.  This is what happens to me:

1. I click on the [Aa] button and a list with all choices is displayed.  At this point, the mouse pointer is on the [Aa] button.

2. I then move the mouse to the input field and click in order to get focus there.  The list of choices go away.

3. I can start typing the font that I want. A new pull down list appears with a shorter list of selections.

4. As I type more characters, the list gets shorter.

5. I can move the cursor to the list and click on a font name.
a. the font list goes away
b. the name I selected does not get put into the input field (which is what I expect)
c. the text field does not change to the selected font.

It only works if I do not use the input field to filter the list.
