Thank you for the explanation. Obviously I cannot reproduce that using linux and Gimp 3. It might be a Windows problem, I have read that sometimes an overlay program can stop the mouse working, maybe something from nVidia.
You might be able to get around that using the keyboard cursor keys in the filtered dropdown and the enter key to select.
