watermark on a layer

Hi,

Does please GIMP have some tools to do a watermark, but on a layer ?

• What kind if watermark?
  
• If the watermark shows in the final output then it is on some layer, whether it is the one carrying the original image or a distinct one.

I need a half-discreet watermark, done with the Gimp text writing tool.

* Create  a text  layer in white with the Text tool. It is useful to have the text with explicit spaces at least on one side. You may also want to add an empty line below. Another way is to set the box to "Fixed" n the tool options and enlarge it manually
* Filter > Map > Tile (uncheck Create new image). Give it the size of the image if you keep it straight, make it bigger than the image if you intend to rotate it (up to about 50%, depending on angle)
* Rotate and center the watermark layer with the Rotate tool
* Reduce its opacity
* Crop the image back to its initial size

   

If you want to watermark several images, you can create the watermark layer as a separate image (large enough to cover all you needs, rotated and with reduced opacity), and then use File > Opens as layers to add to it images.

Another way, equally hands on

Make a text layer
Rotate the text layer.
Using the text as a separate image, reduce the opacity.
Export the image as a png to your patterns folder.
In the image to overlay, refresh the patterns
Bucket fill using the new pattern,

If you want a plugin with variable text / size / etc... Then the Gimp gmic plugin has a 'Visible Watermark' filter.

There used to be a (was it a script?) to make a watermark on one of the sides of your picture.
