  blending multiple exposures
Posted by: jrickards - 02-17-2023, 01:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I took multiple photos of my dog Hunter running across the hockey rink. I wanted to create a multiple exposure so I blended them in Gimp using the addition blending option.

It isn't quite what I wanted: he appears rather ghostly and I wanted more of a solid appearance.

Is it possible to do what I want? If so, how?

How Do I Change a Background Without Cutting Off 'Borderline' Pixels
Posted by: Taylor-eOS - 02-16-2023, 07:54 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (13)

I searched for this everywhere, but can't seem to find an answer, even though it has to be a common problem.

I have an object surrounded by a background, in this case the white. But the transition between the background and the object isn't entirely clean. As you can see some of the pixels close to the border are a little darker.
If I change the background or select the object, it will either cut the transition pixels off and make the result seem cut out, or have this thin gray border around the object.

So is there a way to take the slightly darker white-ish pixels from the white background and transfer them to the new background, but not as white pixels but what's darker than white onto the new background?

I don't want to cut all the white inside the object, this is just about the cut-out.

Hi, wondering whether it is possible to create a text effect like this

I don't know what they call this. I have seen this kind of text in Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc. Thanks.

I found a PS tutorial on Google related to the above image

Posted by: meetdilip - 02-16-2023, 08:58 AM - Forum: Installation and usage - Replies (10)

Hi, I installed the dev version from Flathub on Ubuntu 22.04. Now I cannot see my 2.10.32 ( also installed through Flathub ). Is it lost? Any way to get it back without removing 2.99?

Thanks.

  Copy/Pasting Losing Image Quality
Posted by: KrimLeingod - 02-16-2023, 06:02 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hey everyone,

Total novice to gimp or image editing in general. I'm trying to copy/paste an image into another image, and whenever I cut out the image and paste it, it seems to lose its color quality or something, I'm not even sure what it's doing. I'll attach a picture to show what I mean.

If you know what it is I'm doing wrong, I'd really appreciate the input!

The left side of the attached picture is the original quality, and the right side is after I cut/paste on gimp.

Thank you!

Making a batch of photos look scanned and photographed
Posted by: Photoscanner1234 - 02-15-2023, 03:52 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello all

I am just writing as I have a batch of approximately 20,000 photos in png format. I would like to make it look like they've all been 1) scanned and then 2) been photographed.

Just writing to ask - does anyone know of any automated ways to do this?

I've used Batch GIMP to add different filters e.g. blur or rotation etc. My query is how to make the effects look like like and heterogenous across 20,000 different ECGs

Kind regards

Neil

  LAYER MASK
Posted by: gaystan - 02-14-2023, 08:05 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

First, I opened my "base" layer (background image).  Second,  I  OPENed AS A LAYER.  Got my "top" image positioned. Added LAYER MASK.  Then  I clicked on ERASER tool > PAINT BRUSH. Selecting the MASK, painting
the area I want to remove (to show background layer beneath). Using the NORMALmade painting. but the MASKED
LAYER has a green bounding box around it. And I can't ERASE  the part of the "top" layer I want to erase. I tried adding an ALPHA CHANNEL. That didn't work.  The ERASE tool isn't working. I'm not sure what I did wrong.  Or didn't
do properly.   I have GIMP version 2.10 / Windows 10

Question - Newbie confused -
Posted by: galactic-gorilla - 02-14-2023, 06:31 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (6)

Hey everyone,

So I am sure this gets asked all the time, and I apologize if I add to the number of times but even after all the research I have done, I am still not entirely convinced I have put the scripts and plug-ins in the correct places. Below is two screenshots from Edit/Preferences/Folders/Scripts and also /Plugins

What I am ultimately confused about is the GIMP I have installed and run is

I have two folders labeled "2.0" and "2.10" that contain the plug-ins and scripts I've downloaded, I ended up putting them into both folders because I couldn't seem to get it to work any other way. Although most of them seem to work, I'm not sure what the difference is between these two folders. I'm hesitant to delete either one and test it out myself, as it took me way to much time to get everything working correctlycorrectly. If anyone could provide information or insight into this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
