color prints differently from separate images; confusion
Posted by: icy - 01-14-2021, 12:32 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (10)

hi.

We are using Windows 10 Pro 64bit and Gimp 2.10.22.

My sister has created 2 different images.  Each has the same hexadecimal code for a shade of green; however, one image’s green prints MUCH lighter then the other image’s same shade of green.  We want both images’ green shade to print exactly the same.  (It’s supposed to, obviously, since both shades of green share the exact same hexadecimal code.)

Please enlighten us of the solution.

Hi , I am new here.

I have a problem .
I have a service manual that has a total of a 104 pages.  (A4, jpg)

One complete section is 8 pages . 4 on the top row and 4 on the bottom row.
to make one complete sheet .
They were scanned and sent to me .
Now to be able to use them I have to stitch them back together it a full large pages .

each Page was scanned as a jpg and they had a very dark back ground that I managed to clean up
using auto Balance .
I have look though the help and could not figure out How to increase the work space to fit four A4 sheets on
top . and Two A4 down . 8 sheets  to make one complete  image  . so I can put this jigsaw back together .
Also some of the pages are not 100% square so the alignment will have to be slid over to match ..
Is this possible .
If so How in the simplest way possible .

O forgot I am using Linux and version 2.10.18
Thanks

  "Rotate image" causes degradation
Posted by: rickk - 01-13-2021, 10:02 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I stumbled into this issue through a series of improbable events.   Huh

While trying to edit a map that  was 5300 pixels x 2200 pixels (approx 11 MB file size), I was having real problems with "jaggies" when drawing straight lines using the pencil tool in conjunction with the [shift] key, anytime I was drawing a line outside of strict 0-90-180-270 degree coordinates.  (reading elsewhere here I've already discovered that my main problem was that I was too stupid to realize that the pencil tool does not  anti-alias, so I switched to the brush tool, and that problem is now solved).I may end up preferring the "stroke path" function....once I get more experience with it.

ANYWAY, before I came here and got a workable solution, I was trying to improvise a solution.

Initially, it seemed to make perfect sense to me to just use the transform/rotate image function, and rotate the entire image to the  position needed to draw the line straight at 90/180/270 degrees with the pencil tool. And it worked, giving me nice, crisp lines at whatever angle I set up for.

But, I needed to draw 50+ lines, oriented at least a dozen different  rotational positions.  Waiting for an image of that size to rotate, got to be a chore in itself, especially given the number of times I needed to set up differently.

But it seemed to be working, until I got to my 5th distinct rotation, and I noticed that the (original) text on the map was starting to get blurry.

(note: using *.PNG image format)

Evidently there is some loss of information that accompanies each rotation?  I've rotated images in the past and never really noticed degradation of the image before.

Are you folks who are familiar with the code aware of why this might be happening?  Is there a setting available that can "sharpen the pencil" that the program uses to calculate the rotations?  (such as the Image/precision  list box selector) not sure if that is the intent, or not.

Just curious if this is the intent and function of the "precision" selector.

Doubtful that I'll ever try this again for the purpose of beating the anti-alias  demons, but I do occasionally rotate images for legitimate purposes, so it would be nice to know if there is a fix available. Thank you in advance for your patience in addressing this unusual request.  Smile

2 problems in 1 post - beginner here
Posted by: guest273 - 01-12-2021, 10:32 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hello there everyone! guest273 here!

I'm using gimp 2.10.8, but you can no longer post questions on the gimp 2.10 forum section, so I'm posting them here.

I'm currently facing 2 issues:

1) https://i.imgur.com/R9xNOhW.png
This is a picture of my cat sitting in a basket. I've successfully removed the background. I have no idea how the yellow-black lines are called in gimp language, but basically I don't want to have so much transparent background in the image with my cat. How do I shrink that box without shrinking the resolution of the image with my cat?

2) https://i.imgur.com/nJ7iHy4.png
I wanted to put my cat between those 2 hands, so it would look like they are holding my cat in a basket up.
I downloaded the hand image from here: https://assets.stickpng.com/images/580b5...7b29b4.png
Then I opened it in gimp and opened the image you can see in "1)" as a layer.
Why is the picture of my cat orange though? Even if I disable showing the hands layer. What kind of Mexico filer is that? How do I restore the colors for my cat?

Huh Huh Huh

I'll check back here tomorrow to see if anyone has answered.

Thanks in advance.

  Scale tool giving me hell
Posted by: Oona Mistwalker - 01-11-2021, 05:03 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hi. I am trying to scale a selection of a layer so parts of it align with guide dots in another layer. Most of the first layer is transparent. A small area in the center has color data and the layer is in legacy Dodge mode.

I select my layer, then get the Fuzzy Select Tool and put it in the "replace current selection" mode. I click in a transparent part of the layer, then invert the selection. Now, all pixels with color data are selected and the selection is near the center of the image.

Then I choose the Scale tool. I make sure it is in Selection mode and click in my selection. At this point one of a handful of weird things happens. Either the Scale Frame starts at the top of the selection, hugs either side of it, then drops down to the bottom of the image; or the Scale frame starts at the top of the selection, extends to either side of the whole image and down to the bottom; or it starts at the right edge of the selection, extends to the top and bottom of the image and then out to the left edge of the image. The selection is far too large to scale the detail I need!

Either way, if I grab one of the handles of the frame and move it, the "marching ants" resize themselves,
[Image: Scale-3.png]
but when I click the Scale button, the colored pixels themselves do not move, though the dancing ants do.

Changing the layer mode from Dodge (legacy) to Normal (legacy) shows all the pixels with color data. It looks like no color data has moved.

To confirm this, I take the Fuzzy Select Tool again, in "replace current selection" mode, and click an area outside the new marching ants. Only the colored pixels are selected so the Scale Tool has truly moved no color data to new pixels.

What gives? I've looked everywhere for something I have done to cause this but I can't find anything. I sure would be grateful for any help.

Gimp 2.10 plugin and lost controls on left dock
Posted by: Bipolar - 01-11-2021, 03:18 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I recently installed Linux Mint 64bit with the Mate desktop. I also installed Gimp 2.10.
With the previous version of gimp the install would create a hidden folder in my home
folder named .gimp-2.8. There was a sub-folder called scripts or something like that
where I put the Pandora plugin. There is no Gimp folder in my home folder with Gimp 2.10.
I looked in Edit/Preferences/folders/ and the folders appear as swap folder and temporary folder.

When I did the Mint install I did not create a swap file. I have lots of ram installed so no need for one.

I also removed some of the items on the left dock and I'm not sure how to get them back.
I messed up something on a previous version of Gimp, I don't remember what but I deleted
the .gimp-2.** file in my home folder and when I restarted Gimp it recreated the folder and
went back to all the default settings. I just had to reinstall the Pandora script.
Does Gimp 2.10 have a place to put scripts? How do I install them?

Thanks!!
