  Altering multiple files
Posted by: SteveB - 01-24-2020, 03:28 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi all,newbie here. Searched for an answer but quickly became overwhelmed. I took a night lapse that came out ok but I would like to increase the contrast of all the photos before compiling them into a video. I have Elements 2.0 (yeah I'm a dinosaur) but don't want to do several hundred photos one at a time.  Just downloaded Gimp 2.10.14.  Can I do it? and how?  Thanks

  Font size seems locked on one text box
Posted by: marigolden - 01-23-2020, 10:04 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I was able to change fonts size, but on one text box it doesn't seem to work. I'm on the correct layer. The other text boxes have the same font as this one so it isn't the style being defective or anything. Any reason why it'd do this?

  Is there a way to get it to preview a font just by hovering over the name?

I'm having to click it each time to test out the look of it, just wondering if there's a way around it to preview without clicking

  Photo Restoration
Posted by: Rob1955 - 01-23-2020, 02:23 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I'm trying to restore a photo for a friend, and have come across a difficult area. I have attatched two images. In image one, part of the original, the arm, and the hand, are faded or damaged. In image Two, I have tried to repair the damage, but I am having trouble reproducing the darker areas at the bottom of the arm/hand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Adding alpha to make a rectanglular image, square
Posted by: Summoner99 - 01-22-2020, 06:14 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I'm fairly new to gimp, so this might be a really obvious question, and I definitely might have missed this answer during my internet search.

I have a rectangular black and white image that is taller than it is wide (but a solution that applies to one that is wider than it is tall would be great as well). I'd like to add transparent pixels on either side so that when I export it as a png, its size is square, but the original part of the image is still centered nicely.

The best idea I have is to create a square image of only transparent pixels then select the entirety of the original image and paste it onto this new image and somehow keep it centered.

Again, I am a beginner so I'm pretty positive there is a better solution.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:
Turns out what I thought of was a fairly easy solution

  Selective Gaussian Blur Aux Input
Posted by: QuinB - 01-22-2020, 02:30 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Can anybody help us, please, with information on how to use the

Aux. Input

option on the Selective Gaussian Blur filter?

That you're meant to choose a layer as some sort of mask seems obvious, but basic experiments don't seem to get very far and the manual entry stating "Aux. input: If there is another image on screen, you can select it as auxiliary input." is not as informative as hoped.

There are some very informative articles on using Selective Gaussian Blur for Gimp 2.8 (or perhaps earlier), but nothing for the new option, so almost anything to help explain the how and why would be useful

  Gimp exports image upside down randomly
Posted by: wk_ - 01-22-2020, 11:27 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hi!

I migrated yesterday coworker's workflow from Linux to Windows and got big surprise, that in some cases Gimp (2.10.14) exports image upside down.

Our workflow follows:
* scan image upside down into TIFF
* open TIFF in Gimp
* rotate image 180 degrees
* crop image
* make needed improvements (levels, any corrections needed)
* scale image down
* export to original file/overwrite original file

After that we sometimes get image upside down, where all changes after rotating are fine. How is that possible? How to fix it?

The workflow under Linux was exactly same, but we never had such behavior.

TIA,

Gunnar

PS. I think, this topic is better suited to Gimp 2.10 subforum, but I don't see "Post Thread" button there.

  How do I disable dither on PNG export?
Posted by: jieiku - 01-21-2020, 10:26 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

How do I disable dither on PNG export?

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 and have Gimp 2.8.22, however I can install a newer gimp if that is what is required.
Also it has occurred to me that Mirage and Occular may not be Scaling it up correctly, which results in the appearance of dither. I am not sure how to verify this.
If I open that same .png file in gimp and zoom in, then it appears correctly.
If this is just Mirage doing bad scaling on zoom in, does anyone know of another image viewer that could be used? (something lightweight for quickly viewing an image, no editing.)

Appreciate any help Smile

here is the png I exported from gimp (to look at this I don't really see dither, but 16x16 is really small):

here is a screenshot from within gimp:

here is the exported PNG opened in Mirage (notice the dither?):

  Window 10 Can't install arrow script
Posted by: JC Stevens - 01-21-2020, 07:31 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

Upgraded to a new computer with Windows 10. I can't get the arrow script to install.  In the GIMP folder there is not a folder named scripts? I've tried both 2.8 and 2.10.
