Something I have always been curious about is why selection tools can reach out into the padding past the canvas. The adjustment handles land past the canvas edges and I can't think of a reason why that would be useful. I'm sure someone has an answer though.

I believe an option to Constrain to Canvas Edges would be useful. Then you could over-select with a tool and grab the adjustment handles right where you want to make the adjustment. It's a small thing but seems much more intuitive to me. 

Anyone else ever thought this too?

   

I'm a total gimp-newbie and this is probably an easy thing to do but I'm failing. I have three layers. 

Layer 1. An image
Layer 2. A color(I chose foreground) which I have made a bit transparent.
Layer 3. A shape that does not totally cover layer two.

This shape I filled with a color with Bucket-Fill-Tool. That was no problem. But I want to fill the area outside the shape instead. I tried to do
Layer -> Transparency -> Subtract From Selection
but it didn't work. Any help is appreciated.

• Support for the Gimp 2.10 layer modes (but should still work in Gimp 2.8)

Does anybody know how to select an angle to fill without it "smart selecting" the angle?
all I want to do is overlay a polygon angle selection over the image I uploaded here and fill it with black
I tried the free selection tool and the paths tool and no success. I just want a clean edge instead of a pixelated edge and there is no reason the selection tool shouldn't be able to do this in my mind.

I  have a project that I am printing to transparent adhesive stickers. My text and images are various solid opaque colors as desired. The rest of the image background has been transparent so the color of the surface that I am applying the stickers too shows through. Now I need a version where there is a solid off white background color in the bottom most layer so that the underlying object color is completely obscured. So far all I can produce is a translucent background color. 

I need some guidance.

I created a simple Imagus "sieve" filter for use on Gimp-Forum.net and thought I'd share it. I'm sure it could be improved upon as I'm not a coder, but it works fine so far.

If you haven't tried it, Imagus is a fantastic extension for quickly showing full size web images. I made a little video showing it in action.

I have 150 png images with transparency.
They come from a PS .abr file i exported to single png files with a program called abrMate.

I did this because i dont need all the brushes but only some.


How do i batch convert 150 files/layers at once so they are converted to grayscale and a white background is added ?

I have Bimp installed but that doesnt seem to do what i want.
Is there no plug-in/script that exports abr files as Gimp brushes ?
