I have custom images created, and I wanted to know how to create a straight line across. I would also like to know how to put one image on the bottom line and another on the top, kinda like a border. If there is a way, I would like to have 2 lines creating a X and having 4 pictures on each side.

I have an image I would like to add a magnification segment to. 

In other words there is a small portion of the image I would like magnified then inserted in the image. Like a picture in a picture, but still retaining the magnification. 

Is there a way to create the image (picture in a picture) so that when the picture in the picture when clicked on could open or enlarge itself?

For a long time I've been trying to find to find a solution to the problem that's been puzzling me. So far with no luck so I decided to ask here. I'm an English teacher an I wanted to update one of the boardgames I have to be able to use it with my students. To do so I need to be able to arrange a list of words (say about eighty), each in a new line, in a ray-like fashion around a circle. I've seen many tutorials showing how to do something similar along the path of a circle but here it would have to be like rays instead. I'm attaching a picture of what I'm aiming for. I imagine I could do that by tranforming the subsequent words by say 1 degree but I am looking for a solution which would allow for the circle to be editable, by typing/pasting the whole list of words. I'd be really grateful for any tips how to do that.

Hi all,

I am wondering how I can add custom shapes (not round, line, diamond, or square) to the newsprint filter.

I would like to rasterize an old grayscale photo using five-pointed-stars.

• Can it be done in gimp using the newsprint filter?
  
• How can we add custom dot-shapes to this filter?
  
• Suggestions for work-arounds?
  

As of today I'm running into an issue where I can't drag layers or select buttons with my mouse. I can attempt to, and when I do I see that the layer is moving, but when I release nothing happens. If I click a button in the menu, it's highlighted but doesn't actually work unless I select it again with the Spacebar. I use keyboard shortcuts for a lot of things anyways, but not being able to easily move layers by dragging is a big problem. From looking online it seems other people who have had this issue found it was caused by either a plugin, or a screen capture software, but I don't use either of those. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem is still there.

Any help would be appreciated!

You will find this one buried in Filters -> Render -> Pattern -> Spiral

The thing to note is it is a GEGL filter. The spiral is drawn on the canvas (In this example in a Layer mask) What you see is what you get.

As well as the dialogue sliders and little rotary dial, the shape is adjusted using those on-canvas controls. From a thin spiral of constant width to the heavy short shape shown.

I've been using GIMP for a long time with PSD files and never had an issue until just yesterday. I have a PSD file with many layer groups, all of which appear just fine in PS, but that are all broken and jumbled together when loading the PSD into GIMP. What can I do?

I need to make a page of traceable letters for children to trace over, you know? To learn to write.

We have a sample page but the letters are too big and too much space is taken up by unnecessary drawings.

So we just want to extract the letters and resize them and fill a page with them.

Simple?

So they're conveniently in two separate rectangles so all we have to do is select the rectangles and copy them over to a blank page.

Then we can resize them and then copy them over and  over until the page is full.

Trouble is we can't get past the beginning.

We select one rectangle of letters and copy it.

Then we have opened a new blank image and we go to it and paste the rectangle into it.

That works fine. Seems to.

But when we go to copy the next rectangle it just doesn't copy.  

A blank rectangle turns up.  Nothing in it.

And when we think ahead a bit and try moving the rectangle we've got around the page it doesn't move.

We're doing something wrong and this is presumably about the most basic of all things you can do - cut, copy and paste.  Move things around to fit together.

Can someone help with some instructions on what we should be doing to get this done?
