Gimp doesn't recognize most image extensions
#1
Hi,
just an hour ago I was using a Gimp 2.x version. I updated to gimp 3.0.2 and no image extensions were recognized apart for 4 o5 basic ones.

When I also try to export an image to a specific format file no extensions are provided.
I unistalled g3.0.2 and reinstalled a previous version 3.0 but the same behaviour is shown
I am on Windows 10

What's going on?

Whats going on ? - your computer, your guess.  I have just installed a Gimp 3.0.2 along side Gimp 2.10 in a Win 10 without problem.

However, some things to check / try out.

First where did you get Gimp 3.0.2 ?   If using Windows store it might be buggy, if you do not have it get the latest installer from http://www.gimp.org  gimp-3.0.2-setup-1.exe

The jpeg / png / tif ... formats are all plugins. If Gimp does not know where the plug-ins are it cannot use them.

(1) Open Edit -> Preferences   Go down to folders, expand the list, and it should show the path. Note. By default Gimp 3 no longer installs to C:\Program Files.

(2) The installation might pull in old settings from Gimp 2.10  Go to your User profile. Rename the Gimp 2.10 to disable it. Delete the Gimp 3.0 profile. Start Gimp 3 to make a new default profile. Does that make any difference ?
