Relatively new to Gimp,
I have a picture I have got as far as selected a portion and prodused an Alpha channel.
Part of the picture has fractured item I need to make whole using the remaining existing part half that is left.
What is the best tool to use to enable this? Clone or Healing tool maybe?
Any and all help gladly welcome.
Your last post was four years ago. Are you still using Gimp 2.something (there is no 2.14) ?

Really need you to post the part of the image you want to repair. But I would usually go for the clone tool. Otherwise, a select / copy / paste / move All depends on the image.
If the portion that needs repairing (and is the same one colour) I would firstly use the clone tool to get your colour in there then use the heal to smooth it out. Cloning a large area can look bad if left as is unless you can do it 'aligned'.
If it is just a small area the heal tool would probably suffice.

I am using the latest v3,2.4
Been away from gimp for a long time now.
I am also looking at the Healing tool, which seems like a good candidate.
The photo I need to edit has an object in front of part of the image, I need to remove this object and replace it with the complete item in the background.
Ah, If you want to show her foot? Probably better if you have a similar part to copy/paste in it's place then use clone to do the rest. Unless you are able to draw it in. I hope you do not think that by removing the seat will magically make her foot appear. By the way where is the cooler?
As sallyanne says you need a replacement foot or you can try to construct one. That looks like half of a foot to me. Copy and paste to a new layer and then flip horizontal and then rotate. Do some work with copy and paste and the clone and healing tool.
I will attempt the clone and healing first, I see that the 3.2 manual appears to show older short cut commands.. e.g. Clone used to be C now it is S et-al ?
I’ve been using GIMP for years, but sometimes the program’s tools make it nearly impossible to properly or easily restore a photo,or a part of one. Now we have AI, and yes and sorry, I know it might come across as a bit lazy, but on the other hand, you should view it as a supplement to the existing tools.
