For anyone starting in Gimp, I found this source to be just about the best Teacher of Gimp, with over 100 videos on Gimp Commands to his name.

I still refer to them occasionally, mainly the only thing I notice is the Keyboard shortcuts have changed in ID lettering

At least most are short, but too old, things have changed since Gimp 2.8  Taking the example of a pencil drawing effect a one stop plugin for Gimp 3 the gmic plugin.

   

It is not a bad idea understanding how to make-from-basics but new users to Gimp are going to be baffled in places.
