Why do you PS guys always have some weird setup for the Gimp interface, really it does not help. That was rhetorical - do not answer that 
Crop is the same as this, but it looks like you might want rounded corners so use the rectangular select tool. I detached the tool options to show everything, normally leave it docked.

The grid is common to both crop and select and has various layouts. Rounded corners are only rectangular select.
Using rectangular select as shown. Edit -> copy then Edit -> Paste As -> New image gives this.
