Can you give a bit more information please. How are you blending the layers together ? Is it using a layer mode (which one ) on the top layer or maybe just create some transparency in the selected area.
Or if you have no idea, show the two layers and possibly what the result looks like.

Probably not with the fuzzy select tool, I tend to use the quickmask and paint in a selection

Basically I have my heightmap (the dark grey is the ground and the other layer is the panda basically a higher ground)
I usually combine these two using the smudge tool to and it makes a smooth slope in game for example looks like the 2nd picture
Rather than go around the whole thing manually I would like to combine the edges of the panda with the other layer maybe 40-80 pixel size.
Is there a more effficient way to do this apart from gaussusian blur?
