How to connect layers ?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to GIMP. I have a question regarding layer linking. When I try to move layers together, then I CTRL+click the layers in the layer dialogue. But when I try to move the layers using the arrows, then it moves which layers are selected in the dialogue instead of moving said layers. When I click back in the editing window to indicate that I want to move the layers and not the selection from the list, then it deselects what I selected via CTRL+click. What would be the right workflow to move multiple layers with the arrows?
