You should post a report as an issue: Maybe tack it on the end of this very-very long existing report.

Using Windows ? Try starting gimp in a terminal with the switch --verbose ( gimp.exe --verbose ) and inspect the outcome. The devs always want the debug stuff but it is not always possible.
