I wonder if it is a bug ?  Probably Ofnuts will know.

Only by trial, looks like the histogram is pushed across to the light side, so  maybe this.
(1) Apply Auto -> Equalise
(2) Apply Auto -> Stretch Contrast - with settings as shown.
