How to transform a layer and a path both together?
#11
Hi,

In gimp 3 (currently 3.0.4) how do I transform a layer and a path both together with a transform tool such as move, rotate, scale etc.

In gimp 2 I can lock them both and then use a transform tool to transform both by the same transformation.

In gimp 3 I can have the path selected in the paths dialog and the layer selected in the layers dialog but as far as I can spot so far a transform tool will transform one or the other not both.

Since you can’t natively do it + transform both at once, here’s a workaround some users suggest:
1. Transform separately
• First, select the path in the Paths dialog.
• Use a transform tool (e.g. Move, Scale, Rotate) with the “Affect: Path” mode.
• Then switch the transform mode to “Affect: Layer” and apply the same transformation (manually) to the layer.
2. Align trick (for Move only)
• On Reddit, someone suggested: move the path to the right spot first, then use the Align Tool: set “Relative to → Picked reference object” and pick the path, then align the layer horizontally + vertically to that path.
• This can help position the layer exactly where the path is after the path has moved.
