After Mint update I can no longer name files to save
#2
Attempt to correct so far is that I have deleted the entire .config folder in /home for each AppImage and let it rebuild.

Result:  No change.

Created a thread at Linux Mint forums on topic and a poster stated that they were using the same version of Gimp AppImage, had updated Mint from 22.2 to 22.3 also, and didn't have the issue I've commented on.

(UPDATE) D/Loaded the official GIMP 3.0.6 AppImage x86_64 at the Gimp.org site and the problem RESOLVED itself.  Of course, now none of the damn plugins that I use like Resynthesizer and Beautify work.

The plugins with your modified 3.0.6 AppImage  work, Rich, but the same plugins don't work with the official 3.0.6 AppImage release.  The same old situation.

It would be aggravating, but possible, to get by with the official 3.0.6 AppImage with virtually no plugins that work but, it's going to hurt to lose the old 2.10.38 AppImage with the plethora of plugins that I use with it.
