Rich, you are a good person and have tried your best, as much as anyone probably could. Unfortunately, the cut down version didn't allow renaming either.
Maybe it's just something on my end that isn't quite correct. Either way, I'll check back on this thread occasionally to see if maybe you have any other ideas about what steps to take.
If not, I'll be fine and can just go back to Gimp 2.10.36 that is in Mint's repositories as a package install.
(Update) I also tried to revert back to your Gimp 3.0.4 AppImage that is listed on this board and can't rename with that one either.
