You really need to post the errant gif for inspection other wise just a guess.
A guess, you made the 'reversed' gif from the first which was optimised and in combine mode. The gif stops on the base 'solid' which might be at the top of the stack. Or something along those lines.
Is this using the Gimp script Filters -> Animation -> Spinning Globe? Works ok here with both left-to-right and right-to-left. Solid background - replace layer mode. Are you using transparent layers?
