Turning a portrait into a bronze bust

I remember that post from gimpforums.com. I think there were several contributors/references. Looked around for a link/archive without success. So something like this.

   
1. Separate the foreground from the background. Desaturate it. Make a copy and blur for the bumpmap part.

2. Add a layer in suitable colour over the head and put it into Overlay mode.

3. For just the head and colour layers make a new from visible
Bump map that using the  blurred copy (3A).  You can adjust the lighting effect a little using azimuth setting.
Go into color curves and pull the curve down a little to get a darker colour.
I then used Colors -> Hue-Saturation and increased the saturation a little, a matter of preference.

Add the base etc or if already there turn the visibility back on.
