Not much more you can do, that has not already been done. It is most probably a hardware issue, maybe memory, however you might get some insight if you run Gimp from a terminal. Gimp will output a lot of messages using the --verbose switch but then I do not know if it is possible with a one hour from-opening-to-crash. It will be a long list.
