If you installed GimpShop you installed an incompatible version of Gimp. And you likely added some malware to your computer, because if GimpShop was initially an effort to make Gimp look like Photoshop, it is now mostly a "honeypot".

The two good places to obtain Gimp are:

• The "official" builds: http://download.gimp.org
  
• Partha's enhanced builds : http://www.partha.com (Partha's builds also include popular plugins).
  

Thre are currently two versions of Gimp : 2.8 and 2.9. 2.8 is the "all-public" version. 2.9 is a preview of the next one. More powerful, but not as stable and subject to change. If you are a beginner, stick to 2.8.
