Does OSX not have a search tool that you can use?

Looks like you read the reference https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/GIMPProfile/  where it says that the Gimp Profile might be:

/Users/{your_id}/Library/GIMP/2.8/
or possibly
/Users/{your_id}/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/
(depending on the GIMP build you use).

One way of determining is look at Edit -> Preferences -> Folders just use the first one for brushes.
Now the part before the brushes is your Gimp profile.

This is what it looks like in linux. Not the same in OSX but the principle is the same. edit: Can you post a screen shot like this for your installation?

You do not delete the file from Gimp. Before opening Gimp, use your file browser, identify the file and delete it.

Any Mac users out there who can help beginners?

edit: Top of the google list for locating files in a Mac
1. Press Command-Space to open Spotlight.
2. Enter the name of the file you are looking for.
3. The results appear in the list below.
4. Hold down the Command key to view the path directory.
