Veikk A30 Tablet Issues After Update.
#1
SO I updated to gimp 2.10.28, and when I try and use my tablet, I have to reconfigure it each time I load up Gimp..

After doing this several times, I've noticed that Gimp loads up a new set of Tablet Input Devices, and each time gimp adds a new device in a foreign language.
I'm saving after each attempt, and I've also selected to save on exit in preferences. This does not help/work at all..

Each time I load up gimp, Ive got to go in and re-set all my settings to 'Screen', delete the all the newly added devices that are added in chineese (or whatever). Im able to delete all the newly added devices, all but the original one.. The original devices (Eraser, Stylus, etc) are not deletable, and always default back to Disabled.

What I've tried thus far :
Re-Installed Gimp, 2.10.28.. I even Rolled back to the 2.8 version(s) and the same issue.. So I thought my Tablet went bonkers.. I un-installed the tablet Drivers, and pretty much anything to do w/ my tablet, then started over... New tablet drivers, etc.. I put the Tablet into another usb port, etc..
I even did a custom install of Gimp 2.10.28 and unchecked the Language package to see if it would hide the Chinese looking characters... NOPE..

I've tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to be working.. I worked in Gimp for a few hours last night and I DID have to reset the tablet input when it loaded up, as I had not had my tablet installed for a few weeks.. So I thought nothing of it, well.. except the chinese characters but, it worked and I moved on.. Now this morning when I went into Gimp to finish my work, I've ran into this..

Anyone have any help/tips/pointers ??

Setup : Win 10
Tablet : Veikk A30
Drivers all up to date on all devices

Thank you..

I think you have tried everything I can think of as well Wink

The tablet settings are held in the Gimp User Profile which remains between installations which is why re-installations rarely work.
Try deleting the file C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\devicerc
Start up Gimp and set up the tablet.
Before you close Gimp go into Edit -> Preferences -> Input Devices Untick Save Input Devices on Exit and click on Save Input Device Settings Now
Ok the Preferences dialogue, close it, and restart Gimp
Any changes to the tablet behaviour ?

So I tried your solution and I wasn't able to fix my issue.

So I went into the file itself (devicerc) - I found the Chinese Characters, as it looks in Gimps Input Devices, here is what I tried :

1. Removed Chinese Characters In the (devicerc.txt) file - saved the file - Loaded Gimp back up - Same issue, just got rid of Chinese Characters. (Obviously)
2. Saved the Tablet Settings - Made sure the "Save Input Devices on Exit" was un-checked - Exited Gimp.
3. Loaded Gimp back up & Gimp added the 'old' Tablet setting (w/ Chinese Characters) & had the version I edited out the Chinese characters below and Un-Highlighted.
4. I went back into the (devicerc) file, which keeps appending to the file w/ ea save from inside of Gimp, just pushing down the previous version, be it edited or not. I then deleted all but the Pointer Settings.. Reloaded Gimp, Gimp adds the OLD variation w/ Chinese Characters..
5. Edited the new Gimp Save, took out the Chinese Characters, looked for the setting 'Mode', in the file, then changed all the settings to 'Screen' - Saved the file Loaded Gimp back up. - Gimp Pushed down my edited version and added a newer version w/ Chinese Characters.

So at this point I went into the Tablet Files, which consisted of a few .xml files. I deleted ALL languages, I left in English. Saved and reloaded Gimp & my Tablet program..
I got the same results.. Chinese Tablet name(s) and all were Disabled, not set to Screen as I had just configured in Gimp before tweaking the Tablet Files.
Jumped back into my Tablet Files and replaced EVERYthing w/ a Chinese Character.. Nothing worked.

Last attempt :

Un-Installed EVERYTHING - Gimp - Tablet - I dug deep into windows looked for ANYthing remotely close to Gimp/Tablet and blasted them from the PC..
Re-Installed EVERYTHING - Gimp - Tablet - I'm back at Square 1.. So pretty much I'm at the point to where I can not do anything more on my end. I have sent the Tablet makers Veikk an Email, praying they will answer, as I've read they have a horrid Cust. Svs Dept. I did learn that Veikk IS a Chinese based company, which might explain the Chinese Character always being pushed into Gimp. I, for some reason, can not figure out how Veikk is pushing these characters, other than in a .dll, which im trying to break into now Smile

This is an Example of what the (devicerc) file looks like inside & the Chinese Characters :

(GimpDeviceInfo "VEIKK Tabletഀ㪢ɴ Puckᔀ黫翺"

(name "VEIKK Tabletഀ㪢ɴ Puckᔀ黫翺")

I hope all this makes sense. maybe I'm expecting to much, I dunno but, I've loaded up other Photo/Drawing apps and Gimp is the only one to have issues with the Veikk a30 Tablet..

Sorry for the book.. Sad

I can see the attraction of this tablet, you get a lot for your money and as a linux user, nice to see they provide linux drivers.

This is clutching at straws Wink The current drivers for all OS are recent, 23 August 2021, so although I do not have the tablet, looking at installing the driver in a Win10 (VM)

The first thing is the driver is not digitally signed and I assume Windows disables it. You can turn digital signing off see: https://windowsreport.com/driver-signatu...indows-10/

Installed the driver should show in device manager without any warnings. https://i.imgur.com/bBe8rTE.jpg

The interface installs in C:\Program Files\VKTablet and there is a language folder. You could try deleting everything except English.ini It might/might-not make a difference. https://i.imgur.com/MkqhirN.jpg

They do have facebook/twitter links, I do 'social nothing' but maybe if you ask here: https://twitter.com/VEIKK_USA

...and that is me finished, wait for some other Windows / Gimp user with a Veikk A30 to show up
