Automatic selection tool

Hi

I’m brand new on this forum and using GIMP as well!
I would like to know if there are any 'automatic' selection tools such as: straight-edged (square/rectangle) or elliptical (circle/oval) with other shapes: stars, hearts, etc.? Maybe by downloading extensions?

For Gimp 3.0 - No  
There are scripts and plugins for Gimp 2.10 that make shapes but Gimp 3.0 is too new. Eventually they might come.

At the moment, your best bet is grab some free vector files such as from here: https://www.svgrepo.com/svg/13695/star

Import one those from the paths dialogue (right click menu)  Since it is a vector, easily scaled / rotated ... using the Unified Transform tool in Paths Mode.
