Okay. I suppose I will have to "adapt", as you've told me. Either way, I don't understand what was gained by adding three steps.

Unnecessary complications ? Gimp 3.0 is still very much in developement. For everyday use why not go back and use Gimp 2.10

I can and will if I continue to get problems with 3.0 that I can't solve. The 2.0 version is still in my computer. But, I sometimes do my GIMP work on a public computer at a local library, which had the 2.0 version but now has the 3.0 version. I don't think the 2.0 version was kept, but I'll check on that the next time I'm there. I hope it's still there.

vulpus: Hmm - it looks like your Windows status bar is covering the bottom of the GIMP window, where the anchor button and other layer options would be. You could also right-click on the layer and choose the Anchor option there. I'm looking at the larger problem now, and will try to have that fixed for the next release.

I suppose the obvious "fix" might be: With the top layer active: Layer -> New From Visible and then export that. It should work and keep all your layers in case of editing. Otherwise, Image -> Flatten Image which should happen when exporting (or maybe not)

Is there a "permanent" way to get the GIMP window to fit the height?

Usually the maximise icon on the Giimp will show all in your screen. Next to the minimise - and close  X icons
