Where is there some good information on how to create one gradient in one colour? I'm using V2.

Do you mean white to a specific colour, black to a specific colour or transparent to a specific colour?
Your foreground or background colours can already do all of these ![]()

Info concerning gradients : https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-tool-gradient.html
Easy workflow to make a one color gradient : Make a new white layer Make sure to add an alpha channel to the layer (if not) Use the gradient tool to make a gradient on that layer (foreground / background color different) Then : Colours / Colour to Alpha Result is a layer with color to transparent. For using this layer on a picture use the 'Pen Light' or 'Hard Light' layer mode. Want color to transparency choose that, or for this example FG to BG Draw in a canvas the gradient, typically it is black to white. On the canvas, click on the FG point and change the color to suit and set to "fixed" Repeat for the BG color. Top of the gradients dock is "Custom" right click and copy. Find "custom copy" in the gradients list and rename. A one minute demo of that. https://sendvid.com/hkl58zwe It is Gimp 2.10 (the same with Gimp 3) and I detached the gradients dock for the example.
