Help - can't get Mathmap and GMIC to work together
#1
Hi, after accidentally (silly I know) trashing my .gimp-2.8 folder I am unable to get two of my favourite and most used plugins to work together. These are Mathmap and GMIC. If I install only one or the other they work. But if I install them both only the latterly installed plugin works.

I *think* I have narrowed the problem down to the libfftw3-3.dll that both are dependent on. I've also noticed that the .dll for Mathmap is nearly twice the size as the one for GMIC.

I have had those two working together before so I'm at a loss as to why the won't do so now. Any ideas folks?

I'm on Windows by the way.

Welcome to gimp-forum.net

I saw your other post, so had a head start.

The MathMap you have will probably work, but there is an archive with the files and a description of where they go. Worth using. See:

http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4051

The MathMap files from there using Win7 64 bit.

Too many screenshots for in-line so just links.

1. 3 files to copy to C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\32\bin scrnshot: http://i.imgur.com/cTVWeud.jpg
This overwrites existing files, it could be that the files are identical, or not, forgot to check.

2. The whole of the mathmap folder goes in the Gimp profile C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8 http://i.imgur.com/DxOv3PD.jpg

3. Then what to do with the mathmap plugin files? Unlike G'mic these are not going to update, so best in their own folder but put them in the Gimp profile plug-ins folder. http://i.imgur.com/K5kYfSx.jpg

4. You could keep gmic-qt separate but as it is liable to update frequently, I did a default install to the plug-ins folder http://i.imgur.com/F7DvLwS.jpg Lots of files (unlike linux where it is one file Wink )

5. Now point Gimp to that MathMap plugin folder Edit -> Preferences -> Folders http://i.imgur.com/9NtQN6u.jpg and restart Gimp

Do they work, they do here: mathmap http://i.imgur.com/UT8DL3d.jpg and gmic-qt http://i.imgur.com/DhvVtQn.jpg

Hi Rich,

Thank you so much - everything working perfectly now. Looks like there were two issues. The version of Mathmap I downloaded didn't have that 32 folder and secondly, I'm guessing because I had deleted my _2.8 folder, my Gimp preferences no longer had the pointer to Mathmap.

I really appreciate your help. It's great to be able to use my two favourite Gimp plugins again Smile
