No Option in 2.10 to Export as jpg/jpeg, png,...
#1
Gimp 2.10 gives me no options to save or export in any other file type except xhtml, ora and xcf. I need to save my image in png or at least jpeg/jpg.
I tried saving in Open Raster (.ora), and got these error messages:

Calling error for procedure 'gimp-procedural-db-proc-info': Procedure 'file-png-save' not found

Saving 'C:\Users\Debby\Desktop\HairLock.ora' failed:OpenRaster plug-in could not save image

Does anyone know what I can do? Please Help!

I'm using 2.10 since RC1 up to the current final 2.10.0 and I was always able to export my images.
(I'm using samj's portable, Windows 64bits, but I guess the same happens with any pack)

I never had any problems with Gimp 2.8. I am going to try an uninstall then reinstall of Gimp 2.10. If it still doesn't work, I'll go back to 2.8, since of course I have to be able to save my images in something other than xcf. Thanks dinasset, for your reply.

See Edit>Preferences>Folders>Plugins. This should list two folders, one being in the Gimp 2.10 installation tree. Go to that folder in your file explorer, it should contain several .EXE named file-{filetype} or file-{filetype}-[save|load], in particular, file-jpeg.exe andfile-png.exe

Reading your other posts as well.

Open Raster .ora is a multi-layer format that uses png compression. No png - no .ora

Your Gimp 2.10.0 installation not working.

In the past, when you used Gimp 2.8, did you install any plugins into the base C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\ file structure. Some "plugin installers" do that. When Gimp 2.10 uninstalls Gimp 2.8 these are left behind and might affect working.

Same with the 2.8 Gimp profile C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8\ That correctly remains but some files are copied to the new Gimp 2.10 profile.

If you want to get Gimp 2.10 running, try
1. Use the windows uninstaller to uninstall Gimp 2.10
2. If any of C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\ remains delete it.
3. Disable the Gimp 2.8 profile, rename or move out to a backup folder.
4. Now install Gimp 2.10, run it to make a default Gimp 2.10 profile.

..and if it does not work, something seriously wrong with your Windows installation.

This sounds like what has happened to me since I did the Windows Update, just noticed that my Graphics Drivers (nVidia GeForce) have been seemingly "disappeared" by Microsoft..wondering if it's related, re-installing now to see if that helps..

EDIT: It didn't help the ability to export to anywhere apart from the "C:\Users\----" folder

EDIT #2: Fixed it.. took a while but there's a new thing in Windows called Controlled Folder Access, which was stopping all my programs incl. Gimp from saving/exporting to anywhere except the "C:\Users\---" folder. What I had to do was - Go to Settings, type "Controlled folder access" which took me to the Windows Defender Security Centre/Ransomware protection/Controlled folder access. Switch to "Off", or if you need it, leave it on and manually add each app that you trust (could take a while..).
Not sure what the default setting is, as I may have tweaked it because it was something new and I didn't know much about it.. Now I know!

Anyway hope that helps the OP, if not then it's maybe something a Windows expert will know more about.

I did all that you said, Rich, and guess what? It worked! Gimp is awesome! No matter what version! I sooo appreciate the developers for all of their hard work in creating the greatest photo manipulation program! And I sooo appreciate you, Rich, for solving my problem! Thanks again! Smile

I just wanted to add to this thread that my antivirus program was what was blocking me from being able to export. I had to go into my antivirus program and give GIMP access to be able to save anything on my PC. Hope that helps anyone else who is having the same problem as me. Cheers!
