Spammed to its death... If you create a place on the net where any one can post stuff you get spammers, and the more popular that place is, the more spammers. gimp.org is in the top 10K of the web(*), so it got lots of spammers, and nothing in its design was built to prevent this.

(*) By comparison, this forum's rank is about 900K (read: barely on the spammers radar), and despite two to three lines of defense against spam we still get 5-10 spams a day.

The registry is still available, but in read-only/archive  mode. gimpscripts.com is commatose/dead.

OTOH, thanks to their open source, freely redistributable nature, most Gimp script/plugins can be recovered from any available source if needed, and this include people who have downloaded them in the past.

Of course it depends how you search. If you use http://registry.gimp.org/ then it is a brick wall. Not only that but seriously out of date.

If you search for a particular type of plugin you often get a positive result. Although still out-of-date. :example search for: gimp script +arrow gets

gives: http://registry.gimp.org/node/20269
