I wanted to ask - why did you say you needed to be in path mode to transform? At least from my tests, it's possible to transform vector layers when the transform tool is in layer mode as well.

Say, Unified transform in layer mode looks a bit odd, but it does correct when applied.The UI could be a little neater, not everyone uses a 4k display.
(same applies to the align & distribute tool, the extents icon, again just me and my setup)
