Win 10 Won't Let Me Set GIMP as Default for JPG's
#1
Greetings,

Windows 10 doesn't give me the option to choose GIMP as the default program for opening jpeg's.

It gives specific programs I can choose but doesn't allow me to search in my program files to find GIMP and set it as the default.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sabia

That is strange. A similar question came up here:

The first 2 screenshots show fixing the association in Win 10. Check it out but probably the easiest way is run the Gimp installer again and use the customise option. Part way through there is a option to set file associations. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klV_1PslFG4

This is a problem after a recent Windows 10 update. When creating a file association you can select an app from the Microsoft App Store, but you can't select an app from your own computer.

Workaround that has worked for me: In file explorer, right click the jpg (or other) and select Open With. You can select Gimp from there. Then check Always use this program for this file type.

Excellent! Thank you. Very helpful, Blighty! That's exactly my problem.
