It all depends what your work in Krita entails.
You can stretch a layer in Krita by painting outside the canvas. (I suppose similar to the Gimp 3 Expand Layer option in the paint tools)
That is imported back into Gimp (using psd format) with the increased layer size. You can trim with a layer to canvas size.
